Brody Dolyniuk....In a nutshell
I was born in Wichita, KS on February 7, 1970. We moved frequently, between the midwest and California, which meant I was the new kid on the block (don't go there) and in schoolrooms throughout most of my youth.
As an only child, I often had to entertain myself (don't go there), and music became a close friend. I sang along with whatever Elvis records my Dad had, or my Ronco Records collection (the people who brought you Guitarzan and Purple People Eater).
My parents divorced when I was 7, and I lived with my Father, who let me drink beer and "read" Playboy magazines.
I made friends in school by doing draw-rings of cars and nude women. I then actually saw a real nude woman once....more on this later.
I had also begun teaching myself piano and guitar, picking out tunes by ear. It wasn't until much later that I realized it was much easier using my fingers. Then, while visiting my Mother, who had moved back to her hometown in Indiana, I was given a small portable keyboard, which I would play constantly. Accompanied by the various onboard rhythms, I learned a lot about different styles of music, including Country, Salsa, Rock, Pop, and even Bossa Nova (anyone who's ever played with a Casio keyboard should be laughing right now).
A revelation hit me in my sophomore year of high school (class of '88), when I formed my first band for the talent show. We performed Tom Sawyer from Rush, and Jump from Van Halen, to great acclaim. It was then that the idea of live performance struck me as something I might just want to do on a regular basis.
I was in and out of bands for several years, while working in the automotive industry (everything from Auto Parts sales, to mechanical work to auto body/painting), and then as a graphics designer for a sign company in Las Vegas, NV.
Then in 1997 I stumbled into a "dueling" piano bar at the New York NY Hotel. The concept intrigued me, and I inquired within about an audition....two months later I found myself stuck in Billings, Montana, freezing my ass off. I partnered up with a dueling piano veteran, Michael Moore (not that one), and we played piano requests to an audience of 20 people for a month. I went on to Kansas City and Denver before returning back to Vegas.
I had my fill of piano bars, so I began seeking members to form a band. Yellow Brick Road was soon born, as an Elton John Tribute, and we scrounged to find gigs at local bars. Within a few months though, we were invited to join in on some cattle-call auditions for the Monte Carlo Casino. By the end of the day we had dates booked! This led to a sparse, and then eventually full calendar, which has not let up since.
The band underwent a major lineup change in 2000, which remains intact today. We have long since dropped the Elton Tribute, and now perform all Classic Rock material from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Rush. See the Performances page for showdates.
Partnering with bassist David St. John, I recently co-produced a full Rock Stage show, aptly titled RockShow! The Ultimate Tribute Concert. The show includes full costume changes, multimedia, humor, and lots of production value (lasers, pyro, etc).
I also design websites (like this one, for example), do audio/video editing, perform jingles, and am now preparing to focus on songwriting and producing. I am happily married since 1999 (to my wife...did I mention I've seen her naked?) and we have a beautiful 5-month old daughter. So there you have it.
